  2. Concrete is characterized by the type of aggregate or cement used, by the specific qualities it manifests, or by the methods used to produce it. In ordinary structural concrete, the character of the concrete is largely determined by a water-to-cement ratio. The lower the water content, all else being equal, the stronger the concrete.
  3. 1. Grades of concrete. Concrete is known by its grade which is designated as M15, M20 etc. in which letter M refers to concrete mix and number 15, 20 denotes the specified compressive strength (f ck) of mm cube at 28 days, expressed in N/mm 2. Thus, concrete is known by its compressive strength.
  4. Take two of the 16d coated sinker nails and hold them together so the heads of the nails are even. Tap both nail heads at the same time lightly until they come in contact with the poured concrete. Continue striking the nails with the hammer with heavier blows making sure the hammerhead strikes the nails squarely in the center of the hammerhead.
  5. In its simplest form, concrete is a mixture of paste and aggregates, or rocks. The paste, composed of portland cement and water, coats the surface of the fine (small) and coarse (larger) aggregates. Through a chemical reaction called hydration, the paste hardens and gains strength to form the rock-like mass known as concrete.
  6. ACI Guide to Formwork of Concrete specify that, to allow for workers and their placing tools such as screeds, vibrators, and hoses, at least Kpa live load should be used for the design of horizontal formworks and a minimum live load of kPa should be employed in cases where motorized carts and buggies are utilized.. Furthermore, ACI determines combined live and dead load.
  7. Prestressed concrete is a form of concrete used in construction. It is substantially "prestressed" during production, in a manner that strengthens it against tensile forces which will exist when in service.: 3–5 This compression is produced by the tensioning of high-strength "tendons" located within or adjacent to the concrete and is done to improve the performance of the concrete in service.
  8. Mar 01,  · Bill, sorry for the inapropriate response I thought the question was w/ reguards to manual vac heads (oops). I don't think there's a huge difference between the 2, but if there is one, it's going to be that the liner model isn't protected against the abrasion that the plaster will cause to the edges of the unit, I'd just keep an eye on the surfaces of the cleaner and look for wear and try to.
